Recently, Xiliang Peng, PH.D. candidate of College of information science and electronic engineering (ISEE), won the Best Student Paper award on the 8th International Photonics and Optoelectronic Meeting(POEM2015) held in Wuhan, China. Peng’s supervisor is ISEE fellow, Prof. Erping LEE, and Prof. Ran Hao.
The meeting was held by National Optoelectronic Laboratory (Wuhan, China), The Optical Society of America(OSA), Society of Optoelectronic Engineers (Wuhan, China), and Optical Association of Hubei, China; and co-organized by Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Photon Association of IEEE,
Institute of Physics (IOP), Laser Institute of America (LIA), Chinese Optics Society (COS); and got support from Ministry of Education (MOE), and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs(SAFEA). The meeting attracted enormous experts, professors and industry members
From America, France, Sweden, Denmark, Singapore, mainland of China and Hong Kong.
Supported by Natural Science Foundation of China and Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province, the research group of Prof. Erping LEE made a breakthrough in the field of slow light. The awarded paper proposed a slow light device utilizing graphene optical grating, at the same time of maintaining slow light factor higher than 130, the time-delay product of Peng’s device is 3 times higher than traditional devices.
