On August 8, 2024, at the EMC+SIPI 2024 Symposium held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Prof. ZHANG Ling from the College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering at Zhejiang University received the 2024 IEEE Herbert K. Mertel Young Professional Award. This award recognizes his outstanding contributions to machine learning-based EMC/SIPI modeling, optimization, and measurement.
The Herbert K. Mertel Young Professional Award, established by the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society (EMC-S), is one of the most important global academic accolades in the field of electromagnetic compatibility. It is awarded to young professionals who have made significant achievements in EMC-related topics early in their careers, with an age limit of 38. Only one recipient is selected each year, and this marks the first time that a scholar from Mainland China has received the award.
Prof. ZHANG Ling has introduced numerous innovations in artificial intelligence-assisted power integrity (PI) modeling and optimization for integrated circuits, signal integrity (SI) modeling and optimization for high-speed interconnects, high-frequency de-embedding and calibration techniques, as well as efficient sparse near-field scanning and electromagnetic interference measurement techniques. In 2022, he also received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award at APEMC. His research has significantly advanced the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in electromagnetic compatibility, earning widespread recognition from both academia and industry worldwide.
